Bessy Bass At Your Place!
Online Interactive Events for ALL School age Double Bassists & Double Bass Teachers, Families & Subscribers to bessybass.com also welcome!
Our Bass School opens its doors most months to all school age double bassists, their families, teachers & Bessy Bass subscribers when we host our “Bessy Bass at Your Place” Zoom sessions. During these 45 min sessions you get a chance to meet and chat with professional double bassists, hear them play, find out all sorts of bass trivia, get some helpful hints and advice in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.
Now that we are back attending live performances, imagine how even more special it will be when you actually know some of the double bassists!
These events are included in our Bass School packages for our students but we are delighted to be able to invite all school age double bassists to attend with their teacher’s permission. We encourage the whole family to join in the sessions, as there will be something for everyone! All teachers of double bass are warmly invited to join our ever growing community and our Bessy Bass subscribers are very welcome to join in the fun, even if they don’t play double bass themselves!
There is a small fee of just £3 per session. Bursaries are available by contacting may@bessybass.com

Scottish percussionist Calum Huggan has captivated audiences and critics alike with his musicality and personality. During his studies at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Mannheim Musikhochschule, and the Royal College of Music, he developed a strong affinity for the marimba, earning his first solo BBC broadcast at just 18. An award-winning percussionist, Calum has gained international recognition as both a soloist and chamber musician. In 2021, Gramophone Magazine named him a 'one-to-watch' following the release of his debut album, American Music for Marimba on Delphian Records.
Calum's passion extends beyond performance, with a strong focus on education. He is a highly sought-after workshop leader and trainer, currently serving as professor of marimba and percussion at Trinity Laban Conservatoire and as a visiting professor at other UK institutions. As Head of the Youth Ambassador Programme and part of the creative team at the Benedetti Foundation, he is committed to challenging the boundaries of classical music and ensuring all young people have access to music education. He also serves as Vice-Chair of the Musicians’ Union ED&I committee.
Calum is a Yamaha Artist and an Acoustic Percussion Signature Artist
