Bessy Bass Band
The Bessy Bass Band launched officially at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2019 with
“Bessy Bass Band’s Munchtime Music!”
As all the members of the band wanted to get involved, this was a combination of all three of our sextets! Our sell-out audiences were serenaded with a variety of styles of music as they munched on their lunch! They then joined in with our fantastic musicians to perform a short version of Steve Reich’s “Clapping Music” and our lucky prize-draw winners joined the band, taking their places as Dudley Drum’s musician, to perform in the grand finale!
It was great fun and Bessy and her friends made lots of new friends!
The Bessy Bass Band is a flexible ensemble, inspired by the characters from the Around the World with Bessy children’s books with music series, with the aim to help promote chamber music to children.
We are currently offering*:
• a string sextet (2 violins, viola, cello & 2 double basses;
• a piano sextet (piano, violin, viola, cello & 2 double basses);
• a gypsy jazz/jazz sextet (2 violins/vocals, 2 guitars & 2 double basses).

Our Children’s concerts…
• Feature top musicians based in Scotland.
• Are presented, with the audience being guided through the programme.
• Introduce each instrument individually.
• Include pieces using a variety of combinations of instruments within the group.
• Finish with a grand finale performed by the whole ensemble.
• Unusually feature TWO double basses appear in each format to introduce and help promote this “endangered” instrument to children!
• Last approximately one hour.
• Include 45 mins of presented music and 15 mins of “Meet & Greet the instruments” time.
• Feature the instruments appear as they do in the books…with faces!
• Are fun and energetic with a wide variety of genres and styles of music.
• Ensure there is something for everyone!
