Around the World with Bessy and Friends!

This version of our first interactive children’s show, Around the World with Bessy – Part One – Europe, is as above but with the addition of Bessy being joined live on stage by her friends from the first book.

It gives the opportunity to see and hear a wide variety of instruments up close.

This version of the show received a sell-out laurel at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2017.

Munchtime Music Show poster for website.jpg

Bessy and friends have got together to form a flexible ensemble to perform interactive chamber music concerts for children and their families. They made their debut at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2019 with their lunchtime show where the audience munched their packed lunch whilst being serenaded by the band. In usual Bessy style though, they were encouraged to join in wherever possible and one lucky audience member got to play in the band too!

Suitable for all children up to age 12 and their families.

Bessy’s Kitchen Percussion Workshop

Bessy Bass Ltd has teamed up with www.jomaypercussion.co.uk  to create workshops inspired by Bessy’s second book, “Around the World with Bessy – Part One and a half – Bessy Goes Busking.”

THE WORKSHOPS

  • Are creative and sustainable.

  • Feature spoons and other kitchen inspired instruments.

  • Offer the opportunity to play along with tunes featured in the story and also create their own music.

  • Introduce Bessy Bass (standard size double bass) and her little brother Benny Bass (1/4 size, mini double bass),

We aim to facilitate music-making by…

  • Creating an awareness of sound and rhythm in everyday objects.

  • Making it accessible to all and encouraging creativity.

  • Encourage the exploration of sound using everyday objects found in the kitchen.

Suitable for ALL ages, children and adults alike.

“On Friday 2 February our Primary 4 children enjoyed the opportunity to explore in small workshops a variety of rhythms using kitchen percussion and Double Bass. May Halyburton and Jo May were wonderful at encouraging the children’s own musical creativity as well as developing their coordination and dexterity … all wrapped up in great FUN!  Our Grand Finale incorporated all groups performing together. What a treat!”
– Primary 4 and Mrs K Jones, Head of Music in the Junior School,
George Watson’s College, Edinburgh
